History of the Mt. Vernon Bridge.

Jeff Staggs will explain how the original Mt. Vernon Bridge, which was constructed in 1934 served as a major artery for 86 years, linking residents, students, businesses, and visitors across one of the busiest rail yards in the region as well as becoming a vital connection between communities on the city’s west side.
Deemed structurally deficient, the bridge was closed to the public for safety reasons in 2020.  But, after nearly five years of closure, San Bernardino’s historic Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge reopened to traffic on Aug. 23, 2025
